In December 2022, Congress created a new, permanent, nationwide program authorized as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, for States and certain Indian Tribal Organizations to provide food dollars to low-income families with school-aged children over the summer months. The program, officially called Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer, or Summer EBT, aims to reduce summer childhood hunger by providing families with a grocery benefit to feed their children while on summer break and not receiving nutritious meals at school.

As a part of this program, Summer EBT, is being provided to the families of students that qualified as Free or Reduced in the 2023-2024 school year.

We encourage you, if you have not already done so, to submit your application for Free or Reduced Price School Meals. It should be completed, submitted and you must be determined eligible in order to participate in the Summer EBT Program.

You can fill your application though the Parent Portal through Genesis or a hard copy can be provided to you.

Summer EBT will provide families with children who are eligible for federal free or federal reduced price school meals with $40 per child per month to cover the three summer months of June, July, and August when school is not in session. New Jersey will be issuing the Summer EBT benefit as a single $120 allotment per eligible child. Families will receive physical EBT cards, like those used for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which they can then use to purchase nutritious food.

Please refer to the Summer EBT website for any questions regarding the program. https://www.nj.gov/summerebt/
